Valentine's Day....A Love Hate Relationship

I'll admit it, I love Valentine's Day. Let me be more specific. I love the decorations, not the mushy, over-the-top aspect of the "holiday".

I have fun memories of making those shoebox holders in elementary school, with paper hearts, stickers, and tons of glitter! Then, marching around the room putting a valentine into each kid's decorated container (even he kid's I didn't like....still got a valentine thanks to my mom's insistence). I couldn't wait to open each little envelope, and if you were lucky, there would be a heart shaped cherry flavored sucker, or some conversation hearts attached. Yum.

I guess all the silly, kitchy Valentine's decorations just bring back good memories, and that's what I love about it.

So that is probably what draws me to the vintage Valentine decorations. Thrift stores (at least in this part of town), hold a plethora of wonderful treasures!

Some fun finds I recently came across during my last "hunt".....

Isn't she so cute?  Meet the Queen of Hearts. She is made by Napco, and from what I understand, she is part of a series of storybook figurines.

I couldn't have grabbed her any faster....since I KNEW there was some lady eyeballing her. So she came home with me. I also found two cheesy kissing angels (for 49 cents). I cleaned them up, and made them even cheesier with some silver glitter. I feel so crafty, even if it's nothing more than spraying them with adhesive, and dumping glitter on them. It still counts as creative. It does!

Oh, and check out this cute vintage valentine. He reminds me of the kind I got as a kid....and, it's a pony! So cute.

The other thrifty finds were a set of espresso cups and plates ($2.00) ......now, if I could just get my espresso maker to work.

And this ADORABLE little bluebird mug. I use it for pencils, and cannot help but smile looking at it.

And finally, I have no idea what this really is, but thought it was sweet. She now holds my chopsticks, and seems relieved not be be hanging out at Goodwill with the collection of creepy ceramic clowns someone graciously donated.

I'm looking forward to hearing from other thrifty girls, and hope to have guest blogs from my fellow thrifty best friend soon!

Thanks for stopping by.....more to come.

Day One....I can Do This.

Ok, so in order to avoid being one of the only people NOT blogging, I've decided to begin my very own blog. Hey, if a 9 year old can create one, then I see no reason to put it off any longer!

This blog is intended to be a place to showcase some of our fun finds, and share stories of our thriftin' adventures. There may even be a random entry now and then. Why not.

Nothing fancy, and hopefully somewhat entertaining to those who enjoy the fine art of thrift store (and the occasional estate sale) finds.

So with that, let's get this thing started.
